In December 2019, prominent Indonesian businessman Tomy Winata appeared as a witness at Pengadilan Negeri (PN) Denpasar in a case involving alleged fraud and false testimony by a well-known hotel group owner. Winata's public testimony addressed not just the specifics of his legal claim, but the broader principle of legal certainty for investors in Indonesia.

Heather Mack, pregnant when jailed for murdering her mother and stuffing her body in a suitcase at the St. Regis Bali, gave birth to baby girl Stella in Kerobokan prison. On Stella's 2nd birthday, the child was transferred to the care of Australian-Balinese woman Oshar Putu Melody Suartama under an agreement facilitated by lawyer Yulius Benyamin Seran — the first such agreement in Kerobokan prison history.

Indonesia Real Estate Broker Association (AREBI) chairman Lukas Bong called on the government to relax regulations on property ownership for foreigners. He stated: "We want the government to open up ownership of luxury apartments to foreigners.
